Harriet Giles

Sperryville, VA | Exhibiting Since 2006

Harriet Giles weaves rag rugs and handbags by hand in contemporary designs as well as historically inspired ones. Room-size rugs are the main focus of her work, most of them commissioned on a custom basis, and woven on her twelve-foot wide wooden floor loom. Designs include densely warped bold stripes and dynamic plaids as well as subtle, intricate twills and rep weave. Manipulating the interaction of color in the warp and weft, Giles works at a level of sophistication that gives the functional a place in creative interiors.
