I can easily say that all of my work is influenced by ancient cultures and their native (by our standards today) approach to art and adornment. My clothing has a very strong oriental influence; some of my patterns stem from patterns used hundreds of years ago. Many of my hand dyed and printed fabrics are adorned with African and Central American symbols and designs. My most recent work has been more influenced by artists in the past century, especially Impressionists and Expressionists. I love to experiment with color and texture. I am using everyday sewing thread as a painter would use paint, blending and layering to create the effect of light and shadow. The play of colors against each other makes the work come alive.
