My work consists of wheel thrown forms, often large in scale. Much of my study of form comes from an eclectic look at many cultures and traditions. Working primarily in white stoneware, I enjoy creating platter and charger forms that often exceed 30 or more inches and vessel forms as tall as 4 feet. Surface for the past few years has come through pit firing using wood chips and straw in an open pit, and using oxides and ceramic stains to enhance the primitive surface with color. My goal is to create a vessel that has both a contemporary and ancient duality...with Asian, Native American and Central American influences.
