Piedmont Craftsmen represents roughly 350 fine craft artists from across the United States. At any given time you will find work by about 200 of our Exhibiting Member Craftsmen in our Shop and Gallery. We are easy to locate in the heart of Winston-Salem’s Downtown Arts District, or you can visit our on-line shop.
Our Gallery is where visitors engage their senses and their sense of wonder. Artfully designed and full of light, it radiates the warmth of the hands, hearts and imaginations that create the work you’ll find here: intricately designed textiles, turned wooden bowls, skillfully thrown pottery, delicate blown glass, sculpted metal, inventive jewelry and sumptuous wearables. With rotating monthly exhibitions and a constantly changing inventory, the Gallery of Piedmont Craftsmen will always surpass your expectations with the widest selection and highest caliber of hand crafted objects and quality customer service to match.
Shoppers will find a wide range of work available, from small gift choices to decorative and functional items for the home, to exquisite one-of-a-kind pieces. If you are excited about owning things that go more than a few steps beyond the ordinary, we can help you build your crafts collection or assist you with a gift registry for any special occasion.
The Gallery and Shop are open five to seven days of the week, depending on the season, and for First Friday Gallery Hops. Gallery Hops are from 7:00 – 10:00pm on the first Friday of every month. Check our home page for details.
Functional or Decorative
While clay may be their common ground, our ceramic artists produce work in clay bodies including porcelain, stoneware, earthenware, terra cotta and paper clay. Hand built or wheel thrown, functional or sculptural, high fired, raku fired, saggar fired, wood fired, with forms, techniques and design informed by ancient Asian, African, Meso-American or traditional European vocabularies. In short, everything but the kitchen sink, although if you’re lucky you just might find a powder room sink!
Art for the Walls
We also have photographs and fine prints; either framed or matted and shrink wrapped so you can make your own framing choices. You can expect to find original limited edition prints, intaglio prints, serigraphs, monotypes, collographs and woodcuts as well as hand colored silver print photographs, and images using a blend of traditional and cutting edge photo and printmaking technologies.
For the Body and Soul
Works in fiber include woven throws and colorful pieced polar fleece blankets; pieced, quilted, felted, woven, dyed or surface decorated wall hangings, wearables in a wide spectrum of styles, materials and techniques, as well as baskets and fiber vessels.
Exhibiting members in metals may work in forged iron, stainless steel, recycled junk metal, or 24 karat gold. Look for everything from affordable rings and earrings to showpiece brooches and necklaces that will take your breath away. You can also expect to find beautifully forged sculptures, fireplace tools, and small home accessory pieces, as well as handmade knives and silver serving pieces.
