Reagan High School Students Take Control of Their Environment

Ceramic Artist Pam Brewer from Newland, NC came to Reagan High School to create a mosaic mural installed permanently in the school. Led by art teacher Jennifer Willard, the mural involved every student enrolled in an art class and faculty that wanted to participate. Pam initially conducted hands-on clay lessons to all the art students over a 5-day span. During the next few weeks in Pam’s absence, hundreds of tiles were made by the students and fired in an electric kiln on-site by the art teacher. Pam returned to Reagan to install the mural on the entrance way and wall leading to the arts wing of the school. Every student who made tiles was involved in the cementing and grouting of the mural. This project was funded by the  Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County’s  Wells Fargo Arts-In-Education Grant.
