Chuck and Sue Heath created finely carved and painted figures of birds.  Their work is found in many public and private collections.

Susan McClelland Heath Jan. 9, 1933 – Jun. 14, 2012.

Mrs. Susan McClelland Heath 79, known as Sue to her friends, passed away June 14, 2012.  She was born on January 9, 1933 in Red Oak, Iowa to Marion Frances McClelland and Gladys Gibson McClelland and has been a resident of Winston-Salem, NC since 1973. As an active member of Piedmont Craftsmen, Sue was often seen at the Craftmen’s Fair manning a booth that contained beautiful lifelike birds carved by her husband and meticulously painted by her. Their work was so amazing one of their birds, a cardinal that represented the state of North Carolina, was chosen to adorn the White House Christmas tree in 2002.  Surviving are her loving husband of 55 years, Chuck Heath; one son, Rodney C. Heath and wife, Debra, of East Bend, NC; a daughter, Laura S. Hylton, and husband, Rush; two grandsons.

Charles Randal Heath October 14, 1932 – September 23, 2022.

Mr. Charles Randall Heath 89, known as Chuck to his many friends, passed away September 23, 2022, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. He was born on October 14, 1932, in Brighton, Colorado to Etharage Ruben Heath and Viola Jane Heath and has been a resident of Winston-Salem, NC since 1973. Chuck graduated from Colorado School of Mines with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He retired from Amp, Inc where he spent most of his professional career. As an active member of Piedmont Craftsman, he served both as president of the board as well as a craftsman. His lifelike bird carvings were passionately carved by Chuck and meticulously painted by his wife Sue and are cherished by many family members, friends, and collectors. Most notably, they were chosen to represent the state of North Carolina in 2002 to create a cardinal to adorn the White House Christmas tree. Chuck served on the associate staff of Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU) for several years. He also served in his Church as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and choir member for many years. He cherished his mission trips to Kenya, Africa where he trained local pastors and went village-to-village teaching the Bible. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife Susan Heath, and his brother Ralph E Heath.Surviving are his two children, Rodney Heath and his wife, Deborah and Laura Hylton and husband, Rush; two grandsons, Heath Hylton and his wife Hannah, and Matthew Hylton and his wife (October 1, 2022) Lexi; and two sisters, Barbara Hopkins of Minnesota, and Elaine Delventhal of Hawaii.

Chuck and Sue became an Exhibiting Members in 1988.
