Diana Gillispie

Asheville, NC | Exhibiting Since 1982

Diana Gillispie has produced handmade tile in the Arts and Crafts tradition for thirteen years. Asheville Tile works, founded in 1996 out of the River Arts District, is now located adjacent to our house in Asheville’s Kenilworth neighborhood. My husband, and architect, Michael Robinson, collaborates on the relief designs, configures custom tile layouts on the computer, documents tile installations, and offers ongoing encouragement. Our son, Ellis, hand-presses tiles when he’s not away at college. Many talented clay artists from Western North Carolina’s extensive crafts community have worked as assistants over the years, pressing and glazing tiles and firing the kilns. Our goal at Asheville Tileworks is to enhance the homes of our clients with color, pattern and design. Our approach to design is to understand and compliment the individual aesthetic of our clients through years of experience with custom tile. Ideally, our work is about sharing ideas, forming relationships and always being open to finding a better solution.
