Hannah Cupp*

Seagrove, NC | Provisional Member

Hannah Cupp grew up enjoying crafting and exploring the woods around her house in northern Georgia. When working toward her BFA from Clemson University, she fell in love with clay and the process of creating art that brings people joy when used in day to day life. Following college, Hannah moved on to be a resident at StarWorks and then the North Carolina Pottery Center. After her residency at the NC Pottery Center, she lived in Seagrove for 3 years while assisting Anne Pärtna of Blue Hen Pottery, learning and working beside Anne and participating in her woodfirings. Hannah currently makes in her studio with her partner Stillman Browning-Howe while woodfiring with potters in Seagrove, NC, as well as working in production pottery to hone her skills throwing on the wheel. Having a background in drawing and a passion for the ceramic process, Hannah finds joy focusing these two mediums in a single practice. Hannah creates functional forms decorated with gestural and delicate line drawings, intending to have a contrast between the delicate lines and the harsher volatile surface the atmosphere from wood firing creates.
