My goal in photography is to create fine art black and white prints that evoke emotions and stimulate the observer into the scene. I work in black and white because I feel that it adds drama and richness and has the ability to bring out reactions and stir emotions unlike any color photograph can. When working in black and white, there’s no hiding behind a color palette, no shortcuts, and no substitute for composition and visualization. What you see is what you get in all its raw beauty. When you photograph in color, you see beautiful colors; when you photograph in black and white, you see mood, darkness and, above all, the soul of the image behind the color. Because I consider photography an art, my main objective as an artist is not simply to take a picture but to produce images that hold one’s attention long enough to rekindle memories or trigger feelings of peace and tranquility.
