The History of Felting and Artist Talk with Fiber Artist Sharron Parker

July 14, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us in the Gallery Tuesday, July 14th at 6PM for
The History of Felting and Artist Talk
with Fiber Artist Sharron Parker
Sharron Parker is a fiber artist known for layering and wet felting dyed, unspun wool to create elemental, opalescent abstracts depicting landscapes, architectural features, and fragments of living things. Sharron began working in handmade felt in 1980, after seeing 2,500-year-old felts from an archaeological dig in Siberia. During this presentation, Sharron will tell us about the ancient origins & history of felt making, as well as her work and unique process.
Over the last 40 years, Sharron has developed her own approach to the medium, creating wall work with an emphasis on color and surface texture. The simplicity of the process – working combed wool in hot water until the fibers lock – provided the chance to work spontaneously and experiment with a technique few contemporary artists were using at the time she began.
She has exhibited throughout the United States — at Crafts National in Pennsylvania, Textile Arts International in Minnesota, the Atlanta International Museum of Art and Design, etc. International exhibits have been in Armenia and Turkmenistan, arranged by the Art in Embassies Program of the State Department.
Doors to the Gallery will open for the Talk at 5:30PM.
This event is FREE. Masks are encouraged.
