As a guild, Piedmont Craftsmen is strongest when our Exhibiting Membership includes a wide range of creative voices and visions. We are committed to building a vibrant and diverse community of craft artists and collectors, and to doing everything we can to invite you in. Our Jury Process is open to artisans in all the major craft media, from young makers who are just beginning to make a name for themselves and challenging the status quo, to established artists with national and international reputations. The primary criteria for membership are a clear distinctive artistic voice, and technical mastery of your chosen medium. We are open to crafts artists from all walks of life, as long as you live in the United States.
Piedmont Craftsmen uses an on-line digital image application system hosted by ZAPP in partnership with Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF). Our application is online and active from early January through mid April. Visit ZAPP and set up your artist profile. The program is very user-friendly, and they have wonderful tech support.
Application evaluation and approval is carried out by an Artist Membership Committee that changes from year to year, and that we work to keep as diverse as the artists we hope to attract. Piedmont Craftsmen staff members only participate in the Selection Process as facilitators and advisors. If you need help with selecting the work you want to submit, getting good images of your work, or putting together an artist statement, contact us and our staff will work with you to help make your application as strong as possible.
Those who are selected through the image application round will be invited take part in Piedmont Craftsmen’s Fair in November as Applicant Artists. The Artist Membership Committee reviews the work in person before making deciding if an artist is to be invited to join Piedmont Craftsmen as a member. Our Exhibiting Members retain their Exhibiting Membership for life by paying annual dues and may take part in all activities of the guild, including the Fair, showing in the Shop and Gallery, participating in educational programs, and Board and committee service. We do not set quotas by medium, nor do we have a limit on how many members are invited to join the guild each year.
