Erika Scheer*
Waupun, WI | Provisional Member
Erika is a multi-generational wood carver, trained by her father, a master woodcarver from Budapest, Hungary. His techniques, passed down through the generations, continue to shape her artistry.
From an early age, Erika was drawn to the arts, spending time drawing and working with clay in her father’s workshop. Her natural curiosity led her to the world of wood carving, where she grew up surrounded by the craft and its conversations. As her drawing skills evolved, her father introduced her to various historical periods and styles within ornamental wood carving. She became particularly fascinated by Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and the American Arts and Crafts movement. With her keen artistic intuition, her father also encouraged her to explore other art forms and introduced her to artists who complemented her growing style.
Erika’s journey took her from Illinois to Florida, Ohio, and now to Waupun, where she brings her rich, multi-generational wood carving traditions to a new community and the DCCA.
