Holly Springs, NC | Exhibiting Since 2013
Kathleen Master is a self-taught mixed media North Carolina artist who uses acid etched copper and formed clay on salt resist silk and cotton with natural organics to create one-of-a-kind wall pieces inspired by nature. “I love the tooth and texture of different papers and fabrics and the way they take paint and dye. My parents encouraged me as a child to create, they would bring boxes of discarded materials for me to use in my projects! I have worked with mixed media and collage ever since. As an independent artist, I prefer oil based works. There is a lot of patience involved because oils take FOREVER to dry. In fact, it is said that the Sistine Chapel is still drying from the very moments that Michelangelo placed his first brush strokes. Oils have taught me to reflect, wait, and be still. I believe God grants immense wisdom in times where we are solitary and patient. Most of these pieces of mine are landscapes and nature. The irony is seen as one reflects on the time God took to create and design the earth. I recently began embracing more mixed mediums, such as acrylics, glass, tile, ceramic, papers, and other chemicals. There is so much color revealed in this endeavor.”
