Janet Belden (Emeritus)

Long Island City, NY | Exhibiting Since 1986

Janet Belden’s work in maiolica is formed on and off the potter’s wheel. Her painted surfaces are enhanced with a lively brushwork of color, patterns, images and designs inspired by both nature and urban living. She strives to make each decorated surface follow the form, making a three-dimensional painting. Influences include textile design, Minoan pottery and the lively colors of Matisse. Her work is formed with function in mind and it is her hope that the viewer will enjoy the visual qualities while using her pottery in their daily rituals of living.
