Leah Leitson

Asheville, NC | Exhibiting Since 1997

Leah Leitson’s wheel-thrown, altered and assembled pottery brings sculptural expression to functional ceramics. Her functional forms are about touch and communication through use. She considers her pieces to be sculptural objects as well as decorative objects intended to visually enhance their surroundings and each other when placed in a group. Her use of porcelain allows her a unique gestural expressiveness that subtly reveals the touch of her hand. Her forms are predominantly inspired by 18th and 19th century decorative arts, particularly utilitarian silver tableware and Sevres porcelain. Her work is also influenced by her reverence for plant forms.
