My work is influenced by traditional Asian ceramics, contemporary American design, typography, and street art. I try to create forms that are seductive, clean, balanced and graceful. Using typographical elements as well as
references to graffiti, I create abstract compositions on my forms that mimic typography. The surface textures I create serve to exaggerate the contours of the form and help guide the eye around it. They invite the viewer to pick up the piece and investigate it. I often play with the boundaries of a pot, etching through the lip and into the foot, leaving surprises for the handler under and inside the vessel. My forms are made of mid-range porcelain
and are fired to cone 6. They are both functional and decorative.
